Can I apply if my business is not located in the Jersey City UEZ (Urban Enterprise
Zone)?
No, only businesses located and certified in the Jersey City UEZ are eligible to apply for
this grant.
What is the maximum amount of the grant award?
$52,000
Can a home business apply?
No, the business must have a new commercial lease, not a residential lease.
What types of businesses are ineligible for this grant?
Franchises, mobile, home and cannabis businesses are ineligible for this grant.
My business is a non-profit. Can I apply for this grant?
Yes, a non-profit is eligible to apply for this grant.
Can I break my lease to pursue this grant?
No, you are ineligible if you break your existing lease to pursue this grant.
My business has multiple locations, can I apply for all locations?
No, applicants are limited to one application.
How long does my lease have to be?
A minimum 3-year term not including options.
If my landlord is a related party am I still eligible?
No. Businesses are not eligible if the landlord is a related party and/or if the landlord has
any ownership of the business.
How do I obtain a NJ Business Registration Certificate?
A Business Registration Certificate can be obtained online at

How do I become an Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Certified Business?
UEZ application process is completed online. The link is https://www.nj.gov/dca/uez/
How do I get a NJ Tax Clearance Letter?
Login to your NJ Premier Business Service account at www.nj.gov
Under Business Incentive Tax Clearance, choose the department: NJ Department of
Community Affairs.
Are there any fees associated with applying for this grant?
No, JCEDC is not charging any fees to apply for this grant.
How are the grants disbursed?
If awarded a grant, the business will be required to sign a Grant Agreement and provide
JCEDC with completed W9 forms for the business and from their landlord.
After we receive the completed W9 forms, the grant award is issued by check to the
Landlord with a copy letter to the applicant.
Is there a reporting requirement?
Per the Grant Agreement, the Business shall submit a final report that accurately
describes how the grant award affected the Business’ financial outlook (sales/revenue)
and job growth/creation.
