Retail Facade Improvement Program

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Jersey City Retail Facade Improvement Program is intended to assist Jersey City retail property and business owners rehabilitate and improve the facades of their buildings/stores in order to create a better shopping environment and make the businesses more competitive in an ever-growing competitive retail market. The available grant through the JCEDC is intended to serve as an impetus to the many property and business owners who may not have all of the resources to start and complete a project on their own. The matching grants will allow a property/business owner to start a project that they previously would not have considered unless the grants were available, or to do extra work as part of a planned facade improvement project.

ELIGIBLE USES

Grants will be made to property and business owners to address a combination of the following areas of a building's exterior front:

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Applicants are required to submit three bids from three separate licensed contractors for each project. Applicants are not permitted to perform the work themselves. Applicants must get estimates on their own, contractors are not permitted to seek out or obtain estimates for the applicant. Applications and estimates must be submitted by the applicant; contractors/vendors are not permitted to submit the applicant's application.

When an application is approved a time frame will be established which within any approved project must commence work. EDC commitments shall expire, and funds allocated to such project shall be reallocated to another qualified applicant, if project activities do not commence and conclude with-in the allotted time frame.

AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS

All funding for the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation Retail Facade Improvement Program is dependent upon the availability of public funds to the JCEDC for this program. Payments to applicants will be made when funds become available to the JCEDC.

Payment will be made to the applicant for approved work after the applicant has submitted to the JCEDC paid receipts from an approved vendor and the applicant's cancelled checks indicating work completed. No exceptions to these requirements will be made.
