Faced with skyrocketing New York City real and operating costs, many printers are safely landing their businesses right across the Hudson River in Jersey City, which has become the Metropolitan area's "hotspot" for the burgeoning industry.
Printers that have made the move are realizing that Jersey City offers all the right ingredients for explosive growth: a convenient location in the heart of the Metropolitan area, a reputation as an emerging base for the financial services industry, inexpensive land and factory space not available in New York, and a package of outstanding tax benefits.
Since making the move, printing companies such as Cunningham Graphics are experiencing unprecedented growth. CEO Michael Cunningham attributes a big part of his success to Jersey City.
"Jersey City's abundant workforce, the proximity to our major clients, and the ability to transport goods around the world have made Jersey City a good choice for our company," Cunningham said.
The move to Jersey City, "America's Golden Door", is also paying off for many other printing and graphic businesses. Linder Graphics recently purchased a 30,000 square foot warehouse. Mirror Graphics, Greenspan & Kushin Engraving and Palographia also will be moving from Manhattan to New Jersey where they will be experiencing the benefits of Jersey City's "New Profit Center".
The printers are finding welcome company as they arrive here. Under the energetic leadership of Mayor Healy and City representatives in recruiting businesses, the City is world-renowned as a base for the growing financial services industry. That includes banking, insurance companies, and mutual fund advisors. This financial services industry has opened doors for many printers that have moved to Jersey City and contributed to their success.
Overall, in the next two years, it is expected that $1 billion in private sector investment will be made in the city. The expansion in Jersey City allows companies that have relocated an opportunity to explore new markets and sign on new clients.
As the icing on the cake, the City offers unmatched sales tax and associated benefits through its top-ranked Urban Enterprise Zone program. This program offers many added benefits that could not be found in Manhattan.
