Hotel Boom
- Courtyard by Marriot, located by the Newport/Pavonia PATH subway station, held its grand opening in November 2000. The 10 story hotel has 187 rooms, an indoor swimming pool and four conference rooms.
- Candlewood Suites, which is located north of the Harborside Financial Center, opened in April 2001. Candlewood and Tocci built the 215-room, competively priced accommodations.
- Hyatt Regency South Pier at Harborside is a luxury hotel with over 20,000 square feet of flexible meeting and conference facilities, fully equipped with high-speed Internet access.
Two other luxury hotels are on the drawing board:
- A $60 million Hilton will be built by Tramzhotel at Marin Boulevard, taking 2.7 acres out of the 10-acre Flintkote site. The 300-room hotel will open by late 2002. The second phase of the Hilton project is planned for 2004 and will rise between 16 and 22 stories and include 500 rooms.
- Newport Development Associates will build a 23-story, 414-unit "full service luxury hotel" at Washington and Sixth streets. Newport Associates is currently negotiating with several firms to operate the Newport Full Service Hotel, its current working name.
