The Jersey City UEZ brings programs and initiatives that benefit the entire community— businesses and residents!
Does the UEZ Bring Jobs?
Since the Jersey City UEZ began, UEZ business enrollments have accounted for the creation of 35,000 full-time jobs. Qualified businesses engaged in manufacturing or other business activities that are not related to retail sales, or are warehousing-oriented, are eligible for employee tax credits and reductions in unemployment insurance for each Jersey City resident hired. In order to achieve these benefits, a business must apply to the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation Urban Enterprise Zone Program.

How does the UEZ program remedy unemployment?
UEZ funds have established and helped fund several programs and agencies that develop the skills needed for work in retail and hospitality settings. These include the Customer Services Skill Center (which has prepared over 565 individuals for work in area businesses), the Jersey City Small Business Development Center and Women Rising’s Hospitality Program. We have also provided funds to Rising Tide Capital’s Community Business Academy. This non-profit, community-based organization is dedicated to supporting inner-city entrepreneurs with business development services and access to small business loans.

Does the UEZ have other programs for businesses?
There are several! To learn about them, please call us at 201.333.7797.
