The Jersey City UEZ brings programs and initiatives that benefit the entire community— businesses and residents!
What is a UEZ?
The Urban Enterprise Zone is an area of Jersey City that is part of a state-designated program to remedy unemployment. There are 36 municipalities in New Jersey that are a part of the program and nearly one-third of all Jersey City neighborhoods are in the Urban Enterprise Zone. Qualified businesses in the UEZs are eligible for tax incentives, reduced unemployment insurance, business counseling and marketing support. Certified UEZ retailers collect just 3.5% sales tax—half of the normal sales tax.

How Can My Business Directly Benefit as a UEZ-Member Business?
Qualified UEZ businesses may be entitled to tax-free purchases of goods. These include purchasing items for “tangible personal property” (such as office supplies, office and business equipment, office and store furnishings, trade fixtures, cash registers, with the exception of motor vehicles) and services for the installation, maintenance and repair of tangible personal and real property used in the businesses.

UEZ-qualified businesses may also be eligible to purchase building materials tax-free. These materials are to be used exclusively to erect new structures or to improve, alter or repair the real property of qualified business entities. This is especially important to businesses that are reclaiming or claiming properties that have long since been abandoned.
